Welcome to our SIV top-up and advanced manouvres course. As all pilots have one-to-one in-flight instruction with me, and courses are kept small, I am able to teach both courses at the same time. This enables pilots of mixed abilities to attend the same course and is a perfect way to get some high quality SIV manouvres and simple acro flights over a stunning fresh water lake.

For those wanting SIV, this short course is perfect for you to top up your glider control, giving you confidence in your ability to recognise and recover the glider from a variety of manouvres that you may find yourself in during a Cross country flight. So if you have a new wing you want to get used to, or if you haven't done a cours efor aa while, this short break is perfect.

For those of you who want a little more then I can teach more advanced manouvres like SATS, loops, asymmetric 360's, helicopters and big wingovers. The manouvres will be filmed and used to De-brief pilots and slow motion and detail.

So for more course information please read on and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Training

   ANNECY SIV COURSE TRAINING SCHEDULE

The schedule is to have the first briefing at 20:00 the night before the course at the Rouche Hotel in Taloires. We hope to have 3 flights per day and cover the standard course, (link to schedule), You can also do additional manoeuvres, if you wish, like SATS etc once you are confident and Jocky is happy with your flying. We will also film the manouvres and use it to de-brief the pilots either after the flight or in the evening De-brief.

The majority of the flight training/guiding will be provided by Jocky from the rescue boat, and Chris White and Tim Johns, who are all very experienced at flying in the Alps and especially in the Annecy area. They are there to assist you at launch and make sure you fully understand your flight briefing.

The first briefing will take place in the Briefing room at the hotel at 20:00 the night before the course. You ill need to have the following...

  1. All the risk forms returned if you have not already posted them in. For a copy go to (http://www.escapexc.com/news/Riskform.doc)
  2. Proof of insurance. France has free helicopter rescue but it is wise to get airsports http://www.bhpa.co.uk/bhpa/airsports/index.php or other travel insurance that covers paragliding.
  3. If you want to buy a glider, or test fly one, please contact us as we can offer at least £375 discount to course members.

Pilot info

So that we can be familiar with the gliders, and for logistic reasons, we need your name, glider make and colour, you mobile number, with country code, your airtime and paragliding licence number, and the name of your insurance company. Can you email your details to (jocky@escapexc.com). All pilots must be current members of your national paraglding association.

Flying info

  1. Conditions will be cool in early summer so please bring warm flying gear but do not pack fly with anything that you do not want getting wet, i.e cameras, vario's, phones etc.

  2. You will be provided with an inflatable bouyancy collar and a radio bag.

  3. We will be using 2-metre band radios so if you need to hire one please let Escape know before the course. Hire fee is £10 per day.

  4. You will be given briefings prior to each flight and in-flight instruction over the radio, followed by a de-brief. The idea of this course is to give you confidence in your ability to control your glider, so you must be able to hear the radio and understand the flight tasks you are asked to do. If you are not sure of any instruction given then please ask, we are here to help.

  5. We want you to enjoy this course and get a great deal out of it so ask questions and have a positive attitude. If you don't want to do any of the manouvres then let us know and we will change you flight program. We can doing any flight manouvres to suit your ability and confidence.

  6. The flight traing schedule has been carefully designed to maximise your traing and an achievable pace. You will not be expected to move onto the next flight program unless you are happy and confident to go on.

  7. Finally remember that you are the pilot in control and you have the final say with regards your own safety. We are only there to give advice and guide, therefore building your flying experience. You are all qualified and experienced enough to make your own decisions. If in doubt ask.

Flights & Transfers

The majority of pilots should get flights into Geneva to arrive on the afternoon before the course, preferably around 4 to 6 pm, that way we will have everyone at the hotel for an evening briefing.

A minibus will be at the airport at the time of the latest flight in which hopefully will be around 18.30, as I think there is an Easyjet flight from Gatwick that arrives at 18:15. There are also flights from Liverpool and Bristol that arrive at 14.30 so you can either pop to Geneva for a bit of sight seeing while you wait or travel to Luton, but feel free to look around to get a flight that suits you. As long as you arrive before 18.30 or within an hour after it, then you will be picked up. Just let me know your flights and times as soon as you book then and I will keep everyone up-dated so that they can perhaps join you and share cars etc. in UK to save cash.

Your return leg should be booked for the latest possible time on the last day of the course. There is normally a flight that departs late (21.50) which gives us the whole day to fly with plenty of time to drive to the airport and it gets you back in time to relax before work on the following day. If you wish to stay on extra days or arrive earlier then we can not guarentee an airport transfer. please note that the minibus will be in use all the flying day so transfers can only be done at night.
